2016 Grow with Berks Award – Craig Poole, General Manager, DoubleTree by Hilton Reading
Each year the Reading-Berks Association of Realtors recognizes someone in our community who makes a significant impact in Berks County. In choosing a recipient for this honor, known as the “Grow with Berks Award,” we look for individuals who give home-buyers a better reason to live in Berks County, maintain high principles and high ethical standards in the conduct of all aspects of business and personal relationships and show loyalty and devotion to the advancement and success of Berks County.
Craig was born in Pittsburgh, and began his career there, managing restaurants and hotels in the Pittsburgh area. He owned and operated the famous James Street Tavern, a landmark jazz bar and restaurant in Pittsburgh. In 2010, he moved to the Reading area when he was hired to help revitalize the Crowne Plaza in Wyomissing.
Craig is a tireless advocate for change and improving the quality of life for those around him. He’s a man that walks the walk. He goes out of his way to offer opportunities to the homeless, former prisoners and non-traditional workers. Nearly half his workforce at the DoubleTree Hotel walk to work. Craig sees the $63 million-dollar hotel as a pivotal force of transformation in our city and the lives of those who work and live there.
In addition, Craig volunteers his time as a Board of Director for Habitat for Humanity, Berks County YMCA, Berks Encore and the City of Reading’s Main Street Board. The City of Reading has found a champion in Craig Poole and we, the Reading-Berks Association of REALTORS, thank him for his service to our community and wish him and the DoubleTree much success and luck in the future here in Berks County.
