On April 21, 2022, the Berks County Commissioners held a public hearing to discuss the creation of a Schuylkill River Passenger Rail Authority (SRPRA).
The commissioners unanimously voted to approve the creation of the tri-county passenger rail authority, in conjunction with Chester and Montgomery counties.
The creation of this authority is a necessary step on the road to the restoration of a passenger rail, and has the power to formalize agreements, procure funding and provide for a direct governmental body that can work with AMTRAK, PennDOT, the Federal Railroad Administration and other necessary partner.
At the public hearing, R-BAR President, Jason Burkholder, along with Brittney Baker Shurr, Association Executive, spoke on behalf of the membership offering our support of SRPRA . Jason was quoted in the article published by The Reading Eagle and The Pottstown Mercury regarding the public hearing.
In March, R-BAR sent a letter to the Commissioners Office to express support for the establishment of the Schuylkill River Passenger Rail Authority between Berks, Chester, and Montgomery Counties. Read R-BAR’s passenger rail letter to the commissioners here.
