Rooted in the principle of UNDER ALL IS THE LAND™, the Code of Ethics establishes the standards of honesty, fairness, and professionalism that define the REALTOR® commitment to the public.
NAR's Code of Ethics, adopted in 1913, was one of the first codifications of ethical duties adopted by any business group. The Code ensures that consumers are served by requiring REALTORS® to cooperate with each other in furthering clients' best interests.

Cycle 8 Code of Ethics training began January 1, 2025 and ends December 31, 2027.
REALTORS® are required to complete ethics training of not less than 2.5 hours instructional time and not less than 2 hours of fair housing training every 3 years. The training must meet specific learning objectives and criteria established by the National Association of REALTORS®.
Training may be completed through NAR's online courses, such as online courses or through another method, such as online or classroom courses via state/local associations.

Failure to meet the Code of Ethics Course and/or Fair Housing Training requirements is a violation of membership and results in suspension of membership until the requirement is met or until membership is automatically terminated.
