Tuesday, May 21st was the 2019 Municipal Primary. Across Berks County, REALTORS® running for office ended up at the top of the leaderboards:

REALTOR® Michael Rivera (Keller Williams) defeated incumbent Commissioner Mark Scott on the Republican ballot for County Commissioner. Prior to being defeated by Rivera on May 21st, Mark Scott had won re-election three separate times since he was first elected in 1996, and is the longest-serving Commissioner in Berks County.

Michael Rivera is running on a platform of increasing accountability, protecting taxpayers, and bringing economic opportunity to Berks County. Michael will be one of four candidates on the ballot on November 5th, three of whom will be elected to County Commissioner in the general election.

In Heidelberg Township, REALTOR® Kevin Snyder was one of six candidates vying for just two open spots in Heidelberg Township Supervisor. Not only did he win, but he gained more votes than any other candidate, 43 more than the next highest. Kevin ran “to keep Heidelberg on the right path” by supporting smart growth and ensuring a fair opportunity to all those who would be involved in local decision-making.

In Laureldale, REALTOR® Rick Heffner (RE/MAX of Reading) won his primary against 4 other contenders. He received 206 votes, 24 more than the second highest candidate. Rick had previously been appointed to fill for an opening on the Laureldale Borough Council, and has successfully shut down proposals to enact U&O inspections at the point-of-sale.

In South Heidelberg, REALTOR® Tiffany Billingsley (Commonwealth Real Estate) won her race for an open seat for Township Supervisor. Tiffany has campaigned on supporting and expanding on the commercial growth and increased transparency in government that South Heidelberg has experienced.

“Property and school taxes are higher than surrounding areas because we do not have the amount of business to offset the residential property taxcan cut the bureaucratic red tape and streamline processes to es,” Tiffany stated. “With the right people in office, we make this an attractive place to build a business.” Tiffany and her running mate, John Musante will face one challenger in the general election.

R-BAR supports these REALTORS® and other candidates exclusively using RPAC funds raised voluntarily by R-BAR members. It is thanks to the hundreds of R-BAR members who invest in RPAC that we are able to support these candidates, and protect the livelihood and rights of Berks County REALTORS® and our clients.
