Reading-Berks Association of REALTORS® Run for Homeownership

“A beautiful morning and a great city…thank you to the Reading-Berks Association of REALTORS®(R-BAR), lenders, title companies, and everyone for participating… your support really means a lot to us to help provide the best services to first-time home buyers” commented Steve Gieringer, Executive Director of Neighborhood Housing Services of Greater Berks on the morning of October 12, 2019 during the introductions at the first annual R-BAR REALTORS® 5k Fundraiser.

The 5k Run for Shelter was established this year to support two local non-profit organizations: Habitat for Humanity of Berks County and Neighborhood Housing Services of Greater Berks.   With the overarching goal of promoting homeownership, it was the perfect partnership for local REALTORS® to show up and make a difference, raising over $4,000 that will help support the growth of local homeownership, building strong families, and stable neighborhoods through the hard-work of these phenomenal organizations.

This first-time event welcomed 129 registrations including the Rivera Leinbach Campaign Team, endless REALTORS®, mortgage brokers, title companies, and homeownership supporters throughout the community!  R-BAR President Mark Mohn, REALTOR® said, "Thank you to everyone who has registered and shown up in support of Habitat for Humanity and Neighborhood Housing Services.  Both these organizations have a long history of helping Berks County residents obtain and learn what is required of home ownership which is very important to all the REALTORS® here today, much like R-BAR's mission of promoting home ownership right here in Berks County.”  Mohn was joined by Jack R. Gombach, Director of Development & Marketing from Habitat for Humanity of Berks County, who said,  “On behalf of the Board of Directors and staff “thank you so much for showing up…. and we appreciate all the support that your organization (R-BAR) has given us over the years, thank you!”

The 5k Run for Shelter was an energetic event with the talents of DJ Nick Talarico (The People’s DJ), and the professionalism of Pretzel City Sports event timing.  Participants enjoyed a down and back portion of the historic Thun trail starting at Reading Area Community College and meandering along the Schuylkill River.  There was also a 1-mile fun run for children of all ages.  All participants received a heavy finisher’s medal to commemorate their achievements in addition to top 3 male/female winners in each age category.

R-BAR would like to thank our top tier sponsors including Gold level sponsor Weichert REALTORS®, Neighborhood One; Silver level sponsors Bellco Federal Credit Union, Forino Builders, Mark Mohn, REALTOR® from Re/Max of Reading, the Commissioner Rivera Leinbach campaign to make Berks Better, Riverfront Federal Credit Union, and Stewart Abstract.  “We could not have achieved such amazing results without the support of these amazing sponsors,” said Mohn.
