This home and property is the perfect trifecta of a unique and one of a kind structure with a lot situate on a court with no traffic and the quality workmanship that can only be offered by Amish builders. Entering the home from the covered front porch, you may wish to stop and sit on the rockers and view the pond and plantings or continue into the living room which begins an open layout with high ceilings that lift your eyes to enjoy the perspective of a totally modern layout. Take note of the Palladium window above the front door and all the naturally stained woodwork throughout the first floor and continuing to the downstairs. It's another sign of a high end home where the trim runs are single pieces and not finger jointed in the case of painted trim. The front wall frames a wood burning fireplace in that 24 x 16 rectangle to welcome family and friends to take the proverbial "load off" and immediately you'll take note of the adjacent dining room. There you can entertain your relatives and guests for holidays and special occasions. There is a walkout bay with oversized windows that add natural light to the otherwise airy atmosphere. Above is a vaulted ceiling with Philadelphia fencing and spot lighting that create a churchlike appearance. Directly across is a large kitchen with 23 handles (cupboards) for all your essential kitchenware and family dinnerware. It opens to the second walkout bay where an eat-in area gives you views of the backyard and a look into your den/office/tv room. It's very much a "Great Room" that can serve many purposes. There is a large storage closet with shelving (a hidden bonus) that keeps the clutter from accumulating in the home. The laundry is conveniently located and serves as a buffer to the two car garage. Back inside you can retreat downstairs to a cozy family room with a stone wall and additional flue for a wood-burning stove. There is ample storage and head room if you choose to add additional space. Back up the stairwell to the first floor you can continue another flight to the family quarters for evening rest and relaxation. There is a large master bedroom suite across the entire rear of the house. You can even bird watch to your hearts content. There you can unwind in your private bath with soaking tub and separate shower. There is a walk-in closet with ample storage between the bath and the bedroom. Down the hallway is the main bath which serves the other two 13 x 11 bedrooms and provides a private sanctuary for your children or guests. The home is serviced by a "Hydroheat" geothermal heat pump system with 36,000 BTU's for heating and 40,000 BTU's for cooling. Remarkably, the total electric cost averages $141.00 per month. That is your only utility bill which makes for an extremely efficient total operating cost and is obviously very affordable. One thing you should be aware of is the lay of the land on the exterior as it defines the beauty of all the plantings in an important way. The frontage extends almost from the driveway on the left to the driveway on the right and is adorned with six tree varieties (Hemlock, Redbud, Dogwood, Magnolia, Norway spruce and Purple leaf plum); ten shrubs (Junipers, Spirea, Euonymous, Barberry, Cotoneaster and Queen of the Prairie to name a few); bulbs (Pink ladies, Astilbe, Tulips, Texas blue bells and Hyacinths and many flowering roots (Cyclamen, Gloriosa daisies, May apples, Balloon flowers, chives, mint, Bee balm, Filipendula, Iris, Vinca, Creeping phlox and sedum and Lillies of the Valley. It's a lot like having your own personal Longwood Gardens. If you are a fan of the Oley Valley area and all that it has to offer, you should take the time to tour a beautiful home on a special lot that is tucked away in the Glenmar Community. I'm sure that Glenda and Marvin Miller (the namesakes and orchestrators of this area) would put their stamp of approval on just how well this property was carefully planned and thought out.

Arguably the finest "country" house in the early days of our state, the Charming Forge Mansion (1784) features "Philadelphia" quality woodwork in every room. The early wing (1749) is nearly intact from the colonial days when "Baron" Stiegel of Manheim, the original iron master, found the setting "charming". It remains so with the surroundings along the Tulpehocken Creek protected by a local land trust. A museum quality restoration began in 1994, modern amenities were installed with remarkable care and sensitivity. This is a fine antique house for a modern lifestyle, w/designer kitchen, 7 bed chambers, 7 working fireplaces, 4 full baths, radiant heat, central air, stocked trout stream, etc. Outbuildings received the same careful attention: a carriage barn large enough for four cars, a privy housing a generator, a summer kitchen, bake oven and an ancillary stone dwelling. In the early 19th century, the Union Canal was built in front of the property. The towpath and canal bed remain along with the stone arch tunnel and a lock further downstream.
